It’s 2018 and that means we get to start fresh with new goals for the new year. Of course, that also means we have new goals for our pets, right? As you think about eating healthier, spending less time watching TV, and more time with family – think of goals for you and your pets. The focus of our 2018 is on your pet’s health!

We want your pet to have a long, healthy life. For that to be possible, it’s important to take their health seriously and work closely with our staff. This is essential for all stages of your pet’s life, from their early years through the golden senior years. Just know, the Animal Medical Center of Wyoming team will be there every step of the way.

Here are some ways you can be more involved in your pet’s health in 2018:

  1. Be on top of your pet’s health. Make sure your pet is on the right diet and eating the right amount. Are they drinking enough water? How much exercise and engagement are they getting each day? Are they up-to-date on their vaccinations? These things are important, and it’s up to you to monitor! If you know your pet like the back of your hand, you’ll know when something is off. We’ll be here when you need us for anything.
  2. Focus on preventative care! Veterinary visits are down, and preventive illnesses are up. Those two are clearly associated. Your pet ages about seven times faster than you do. If your dog goes one year without seeing us for a preventive care exam, that’s the equivalent of you not seeing your doctor at all for seven years. Don’t wait until your pet is exhibiting signs of illness before you decide to visit our office. If you catch problems early through regular preventive exams (twice a year is best), not only will your pet likely have a better outcome, but you’ll probably save money, too.
  3. Get moving with your pet! More than half of dogs and 60 percent of cats in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Just like humans, animals that carry around excess weight are at increased risk of developing many different health problems, like arthritis, diabetes, and more. Walk your dogs often and enjoy the bonding that comes with it. Find more time to play with your pets at home and you’ll feel great, too!
