Surely you’ve heard the expression, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” but did you know that this very concept could also be applied to your animal friend?
In fact, ongoing wellness care is the most important gift you could ever give your pet. Why? It’s simple, really. Because disease prevention and early detection will provide the best possible chance of your companion enjoying a long, happy and healthy life.
When we are able to examine your pet on a regular basis, we are able to both manage their current health, and also monitor the status of their health over time. With regular checkups, any changes or potential health concerns can be quickly identified and addressed immediately – before they have a chance to develop into a more serious problem. By staying on top of your pet’s health, we can extend and improve the quality of their life exponentially.
What is “wellness care”?
Wellness care is similar to the regular checkups that you have with your own doctor each year. During these visits, the veterinarian will spend time examining your pet from nose to tail. We’ll check the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin and coat. We’ll also evaluate your pet’s internal health by listening to his or her heart and lungs, making sure everything is functioning just as it should. Depending on age and medical status, we may also recommend a number of diagnostic tests to help us further assess your companion’s overall health.
Wellness visits are also a great time to discuss other important components of your pet’s health care plan. During your annual appointment, we will go over such topics as your pet’s vaccination schedule, the steps you should be taking to prevent and control parasites, proper nutrition and weight control to keep your companion fit, and anything else deemed necessary in keeping your loved one as happy and healthy as possible.
Finally, although equally as important, wellness visits provide all of us at Animal Medical Center with the opportunity to get to know you and your animal friend on a more personal level. Remember – as your pet’s caregiver, you are also an important part of his or her health care team and we welcome any questions or concerns that you may have. Together we will work hard to improve the chances of you both enjoying many healthy years of companionship.
Don’t wait until it’s too late to bring your pet in for medical care. Make a commitment to ongoing wellness and preventative medicine, and give your loved one the gift of a lifetime of good health.
